Lots of rain overnight but the sun came out for breakfast !! Now off to the Great Barrier Reef to snorkel

Monday 12th November - Staying optimistic!

So a beautiful drive from Mission Beach to Cairns this morning taking us through rainforest to the ocean.  Dropped off the hire car after a wee drive round to find the place then onto our hotel in Cairns for the night.  Lunch on the esplanade and a wander round the town dipping in and out of shops (at last!!) to avoid the rain showers!  This evening was the first big event - a lecture on solar eclipses from 3 speakers including a Nobel Prize Laureate - v interesting.  Although my favourite was the giant jelly baby!  Dinner, repacking and bed ready for our move out to Fitzroy Island tomorrow.

Question....

Just what does Mhairi think she's doing inviting strangers to the eclipse lecture this evening - I don't think she's taking this seriously enough!!
