Cairns weather!!

Lets hope this clears up before Wednesdays event huh!!

Yesterday's visitor

Sunday 11th November

So the sunshine returned after yesterday's wash out and we hit the road for Mission Beach but not before taking in the fantastic views from the top of Townsville "Castle Hill".  We travelled up the Australian A1, better known as the Bruce Highway, arriving at our lodgings in Mission Beach around lunchtime.  We met a new friend in the form of a Cassowary bird - would look tasty after several hours roasting!  Lunch was fresh fish at a fish bar by the fantastic tropical beach and "dinner" was a packet of lime and chilli nachos! Yummy!

Tomorrow we drive the last part of our journey to Cairns and prepare for the amazing site of a total solar eclipse on Wednesday morning  - until then!

Saturday 10th November

So, a rainy day and therefore a day spent looking for indoor activities.  We visited a living coral reef aquarium, an art gallery, a shop - by which point Townsville was pretty much done!  Nothing left but to find a bar and do what comes naturally to Aussies as well as Pommies!

Driving North tomorrow with the promise of a return to sunshine.  Mission beach is our destination.  More from there tomorrow.

Friday 9th November

Left Brisbane today saying farewell to family not seen for 20 yrs - who knows how long it may be until next time!  Flight to Townsville was uneventful but late and once arrived we were able to have a walk by the beach as well as dinner out.  First day of exploring tomorrow, but one thing is for sure - sunscreen will definitely be required!  Until tomorrow.......
