India by road

Arrived in Kausani after a day driving through rural northern India in a 4X4 as otherwise would possibly not have made it - the roads very windy and steep as we climbed through the mountains to approximately 6000 ft.  The scenery was stunning and we even managed to catch our first glimpse of the Himalayas.

Tomorrow see us finish our journey to the charity project - but, given we are posting this from the hotel managers office computer (on a prehistoric PC), we are not to sure when we may be able to post again between now and Thursday as internet access is going to be very limited.  Bye for now!

Sunday 18th November

So tiger spotting trek finished with a whole zero tigers spotted, but they are elusive and we spotted lots of other wildlife including eagles, deer, monkeys etc etc - layers have now been discarded after eating breakfast whilst the sun comes up. Have checked out of Tiger Camp and are now driving to Kausani towards the charity project - expecting some fantastic scenery today so look out for those snaps! Picture below is of our good friend Ashok who helped us organise our India trip.

Sunday 18th November

Well, slight shock to the system - up at 0530 for tiger spotting trek and its a case of layers - thermal leggings, thermal vest, t-shirt, fleece, rain coat, hat, gloves and thick socks - Australia beginning to feel a long time ago already, - still, once the sun has been up a while it'll be warm - hopefully!!

Saturday 17th November

Finally, after 36hours of travelling since leaving Cairns, we have arrived at Tiger Camp Hotel and managed to get online, so here's today's news! Arrived Delhi International Airport on time and we were met by some old friends from our last visit who transported us to Old Delhi Railway Station (via coffee) otherwise known as pandemonium station - I doubt there is anything as chaotic in the world.

A four and a half hour train ride north out of town on a Delhi Saturday night is an experience to behold - not the fastest journey we ever undertook - and now, after curry number 1, we're off to sleep before yet another early start to go spotting tigers before we start our travels to our charity project.

Goodnight and more tomorrow of course (Internet connectivity permitting!)

Arrived in India!

Arrived in Delhi, had a quick coffee (diet coke for Mhairi) in the United Coffee House in Connaught Place and now on our way though the madness of the traffic here to Old Delhi station to find our seats on the train to Ramnagar - the next step in our journey.
